Nick

Nick moved to London from North Carolina a week before the lockdown started, while he still could, to join his wife who had flew over ahead of him.

"We actually moved over here with plans of a big trip travelling all around Europe, but ironically, pretty soon after we arrived (and thankfully before we bought the tickets) we found ourselves confined to our own little local bubble in Angel, Islington. It was pretty surreal and frustrating too, but at the same time the silver lining was we were able to assimilante quicker and get to know our neighbourhood again, seeing the same faces on those trips out to get the groceries, or while walking Frank (our bull dog) in the park."

It wasn’t the first time Nick had lived in London and from our short time and conversation together it was clear he's always on the move and travels a lot. In fact the day after I met him he was due to fly back to Durham, North Carolina, which by chance is the hometown of my dad and family over in the US.

So then, before we said goodbye, we spoke about the local University of Chapelhill NC, the fear and anxiety of Trump somehow managing to win the November elections and finally, his crazy decision to leave the UK where the numbers are low, back to a US state which has seen some of the worst Covid outbreaks in America.

"Well, knock on wood, so far me, my wife and Frank, have all managed to stay healthy and well during our time here in the UK, but heading back to the US; to North Carolina; right now...."  he paused and then with a little smile and raised eyebrows just said

"....well, I guess we’ll see how that works out!"
