About Nathan Clarke
In the mid 90’s I set off on a two year trip around the world with a battered 30-year-old manual camera - a gift from my father (thanks dad for the best, most truly life changing present you have ever given me). On that journey somewhere between meeting Tibetan monks in the Himalayas of Northern India and photographing Naxi women in South China, I discovered not only my passion for photography, but also my love for meeting people, and the ability to make to make them feel at ease in front of the camera. That's when I decided I wanted to spend my life taking pictures and make my daily bread shooting portraits of people.
Back in the UK, in pursuit of that goal, after studying photojournalism and freelancing for newspapers, I landed my first photography job, as a photographer in a busy corporate publications agency in East London, where I shot for a range of clients from London Underground and The Met Police through to Shell Oil, The O2 and Sainsbury. Today as a freelance photographer I have the same diverse client portfolio, shooting for small business startups through to multinational corporations, the NHS, universities, private healthcare hospitals and creative agencies.
Twenty years on, that ability to make people I have never met before, feel at ease in front of the camera is central to all the work I do. Whether shooting executive portraits, magazine features, annual report, website imagery, university prospectuses or nurses for an NHS campaign; being able to build that instant rapport is key being able to produce natural, relaxed, creative people-centred commercial and personal photography that can get to the heart of your personality, brand or business.
When Nathan isn’t out meeting new people and exploring new places, he loves cycling, swimming and meditating.
He lives in East London with his wife and daughter of 6 years old (who never ceases to amaze him with ‘her energy, that straightforward way of looking at things and innate creativity that children naturally have’).
Despite being a self-confessed Londoner (loving the colours, cultures and languages of the big city), he has family across the channel too, so he’s always got a piece of his heart in the Pyrenees of Southern France.
Nathan is available for photography commissions in London, the UK and worldwide and also available for shoots in Paris, Lille, Toulouse and locations across France.
